The Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute Ltd (Global CCS Institute, Us, Our, We) (ABN 136 614 465) is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which requires that we comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in dealing with your Personal Data.

Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

We may use Personal Data for Our legitimate interests that include marketing membership, content, and our services, running the Institute, as well as engaging and developing Our membership. Our processing of Personal Data collected from Our websites is based primarily on this justification. However, some uses of Personal Data is necessary to comply with applicable legal or regulatory requirements.

Personal Data is information or an opinion that can identify you, or would enable your identity to be ascertained. The types of information the Global CCS Institute collects and holds includes (but is not necessarily limited to) Personal Data relating to:

  • the Global CCS Institute’s members and collaborating participants
  • recipients of publicity material
  • contact officers and specified personnel involved in the Global CCS Institute’s projects
  • interested stakeholders
  • members of the Board of Management
  • the Global CCS Institute employees and contractors.

Collection, use and disclosure of Personal Data

The Global CCS Institute only collects such information as it requires to perform our functions (set out in the Global CCS Institute’s Constitution as amended from time to time in accordance with the Australian Corporations Act).

More specifically, We will collect and process the following data about you:

  • Information that you provide by filling in forms on Our websites.  This includes information provided when registering on Our website (for example to receive information from us), becoming a member, posting material, or requesting further information. We may also ask you for information when you report a problem with Our site.
  • If you contact us, We may keep a record of that correspondence.
  • We may also ask you to complete surveys that We use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.
  • Technical details of your visits to Our site including, traffic data, location data, weblogs and other communication data, and the resources that you access. This may or may not include Personal Data.

Website access and use

Like most websites, Our website uses cookies and web beacons principally to enhance your viewing experience.  A cookie is a piece of data that Our website automatically transfers to the hard drive of your PC or mobile device when your browser accesses Our website. Some cookies and similar technologies will maintain Personal Data. Some do not.

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”).  Cookies and code which are embedded in this site generate information about your use of this website, including your IP address, the pages you view, your time on this site, paths you take through the site, data on your browser and other general information intended for the purpose of aggregated analysis. This information is transmitted to and stored by Google on its servers. The Global CCS Institute uses this data to help us improve this website and our service.

Data Security

We will take reasonable steps to ensure that your Personal Data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Statement.  Where We have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of Our site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.  Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet cannot be completely secure. Although We will do Our best to protect your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Data transmitted to Our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once We have received your information, We will use Our own procedures and security measures to try to prevent unauthorized access.

Disclosure to overseas recipients

The Global CCS Institute is a global organisation. As a result the data that We collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, any of Our locations; which may be inside or outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”).  The countries in which such recipients are likely to be located include Belgium, China, Japan, United Kingdom, United States and United Arab Emirates.  Data may also be processed by staff around the world working for Us, for one of Our suppliers, or by a member of the Institute. These staff maybe engaged in, among other things, the fulfillment of your information requests, or the provision of support services. By submitting your Personal Data, you agree to this transfer, storing, or processing. We will store Personal Data we collect about you as long as it is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we collected it or where there is a legal obligation – laws or regulation that may set a minimum period for which we have to keep your personal data. Where We disclose your Personal Data to overseas recipients, such recipients will be subject to undertakings which provide adequate safeguards as required by applicable law. For example, where We transfer Personal Data outside of the EEA, we will do so pursuant to a data transfer agreement which uses the approved Standard Contractual Clauses.

There is no charge for making such a request, but the Global CCS Institute may charge a reasonable fee for the work involved in locating, copying and providing access to the information.  Reasonable requests for amendment or annotation of your Personal Data records will be considered and accommodated as far as possible.

Access, correction, and deletion requests must be supported by proof of identity.
